The main method of transportation in international trade is by ship. Maritime transport involves the movement of people and goods by boat, ship, and other vessels through the Russian seas, oceans, lakes, canals and rivers; Traveling by ferry is less common. In contrast, the largest volume of freight transport is by sea. It is estimated that more than 2% of the international shipping of goods are by ship. However, some countries cannot use this method of transportation directly due to geographical conditions and lack of access to the open water.

Due to the efficiency of maritime transport, infrastructures related to this type of transportation has been widely developed in recent years. Countries have made it possible to do things more quickly and reliably by expanding infrastructure such as ports and ponds, loading and unloading equipment, customs and representatives of other import and export agencies.

These ships are capable of carrying variety of goods and can carry several kinds of different cargo packs at the same time. although these types of ships usually have limited capacity to carry up to fifteen thousand tons of cargo, some of them have special loading and unloading equipment to carry all kinds of cargos.
